How To Cancel Shutdown
None of the ways listed here will stop the windows update restart.Quote from the MS website link below -'After you install an important update in Windows 8 or in Windows Server 2012, you receive a notice that you have to restart the computer in three days. If the restart does not occur in three days, the computer displays a 15-minute countdown and then automatically restarts. By default, this automatic restart is delayed if the computer is locked, and the countdown will begin the next time that you sign in to the computer'The following fix allows you to force the server to restart after the update have been applied if it requires a restart.
'By default, this automatic restart is delayed if the computer is locked, and the countdown will begin the next time that you sign in to the computer'Wow. Another very useful feature on a server, especially when I log on in the morning to reset a user password, then either I have to stop the service (I'm sure I'll remember to VPN at midnight to restart the server) or let users know that they wont be able to log on for another 15min.I'm sure I'll find a workaround or tweak to setting so that it wont happen again, but I ask: 'Why couldn't this work more like 2003 or 2008 where, with the current settings (GPO controlled) updates(WSUS managed) installed, server restarted, and I did not even need to touch it?' @Wayneismyname good find, if everything else fails, I'll know which 'update' to remove and unauthorize in WSUS off course.
